UK Car Discount one of the UK’s leading online new car dealers has released its first instalment of their 2014 car awards. The awards are determined using a combination of customer input along with the UK Car Discount team’s expert knowledge, combining decades of expertise.

Best Small Car Award goes to the Ford Fiesta, Britain’s best-selling car. The king of the supermini class is sharp and fun to drive yet surprisingly comfortable for a car in its class on longer journeys. Throw in a long-list of safety equipment as standard a large selection of trim-levels and engine combinations with some very frugal diesel and the thrifty ecoboost petrol engines and you’ll find there’s something for just about everyone.

Best Small Family Car goes to the Seat Leon Hatchback. The latest incarnation of the Seat Leon hatchback offers a viable alternative to more established rivals like the Ford Focus and VW Golf. The Leon catches the eye both inside and out offers an excellent range of engines with the most frugal offering up to 85mpg. The cost-effective running costs are combined with the traditional competitive Seat pricing. Some people may be cautious of Seat Leon purchase because of ‘cheap’ image but the Leon really delivers an excellent package for your money and it’s a real looker!

UKCD-CAR-AWARDSBest Large Family Car goes to the Skoda Octavia. We’re cheating a bit by combining estate and hatchback versions ….. If you’re in the market for either you won’t go far wrong with the Octavia, it offers an excellent range of engines with the most frugal offering up to 74mpg and road tax exemption. The Octavia scored the full 5 stars in NCAP safety tests and has gained a reputation for excellent build quality and reliability. Throw good levels of equipment in across the range and competitive pricing and you have an excellent estate or hatchback family car.

Best MPV goes to the Citroen C4 Picasso and it’s big brother the Grand C4 Picasso the two models offer spacious 5 And 7 seat options respectively. There are plenty of engine options and equipment available but we recommend the Exclusive model with the 1.6-litre diesel engine and manual transmission. The engine has enough grunt to pull a full car and the Executive trim level offers excellent levels of equipment. Take that all into account and we still like the unique eye-catching looks of the C4 Picasso that help it stand out in the crowd!

Best SUV goes to the Nissan Qashqai. The SUV market has grown substantially in the last few years with new models jumping on the growing SUV market. The Qashqai has faced stiff opposition but the latest incarnation in our opinion builds on what is an outstanding car. It boats stunning looks, excellent equipment levels and tech along with plenty of engine options with 2WD and 4WD models available. The Qashqai is the most complete SUV in our opinion.

Best Luxury Car goes to the Mercedes S-Class. The S-Class is considered Mercedes most luxurious model and is loaded with tech and equipment especially with the executive pack thrown in. Engine options are a V6 diesel, V8 petrol and a petrol-electric hybrid model all of which offer a quite/smooth drive cruising on the motorway. The price tag is high but for this amount of comfort, luxury and equipment we think it’s worth every penny!

To follow next month are another 6 UK Car Discount car awards including best convertible, coupe, and hothatch.
